  • Verizon Moto X is receiving an OTA update today with build number 212.166.3, but it might make you more frustrated than happy to know that it isn’t Lollipop.

However last week Motorola and Verizon both started offering the phone after a short exclusive for AT&T, but we have bad news. Less than a week after the Verizon Moto X release date and it’s already completely sold out. has been updated to reflect the changes, and we have more details below.

  • Earlier today, Verizon started the update soak test for Motorola Moto X 2014 and to your delight, we already have it available for download thanks to ! Those of you looking to update the Verizon Moto X 2nd Gen to Android 5.1 officially can sure go ahead and use this OTA. Know that you will root access upon installing this, and also, if you used Mofo, your $20 are lost as you will need to buy the Mofo again for the 5.1 version, as per their terms. Still worth it perhaps, but just letting you know, you know.

To make matters worse, those who’ve ordered a white Moto X instead of black will be seeing a four week delay. The site has been updated stating all white orders are on backorder, and should ship within 4 weeks. So even if you did manage to grab a white Verizon Moto X, you’re looking at quite a delay between when you order and when it will actually arrive.

  • Maybe this 212.166.3 update to the Verizon Moto X is a bug fix update to prepare the device for Lollipop update, which may release anytime now. Motorola just shouldn’t delay this any longer now.

The site only mentions that “Verizon Moto X phones are currently out of stock” and that you can sign-up for updates on future availability. They gave no dates or time estimates. You can still purchase the Moto X directly from Verizon, but Big Red currently only sells the Black plastic or Bamboo variants – there is no customization involved.
